CCTV Privacy Notice
This Privacy Notice explains how Fastned uses CCTV at its fast charging stations and (if applicable) shops, why recordings are made, how long they are kept, and your rights regarding these recordings.
At certain Fastned locations in the United Kingdom, where this is indicated via signage, Fastned also uses Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) systems in addition to standard CCTV. ANPR is a separate system that automatically reads and records vehicle license plates as vehicles enter or use our sites. Please see the section below for additional information about this.
Fastned uses CCTV in accordance with applicable data protection regulations, including the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR).
Fastned
Fastned B.V. (Fastned) is the data controller for the processing of personal data captured by CCTV. Fastned is headquartered at Amstelplein 44, 1096 BC Amsterdam, the Netherlands, and is registered with the Dutch Chamber of Commerce under number 54606179. Fastned’s Data Protection Officer (DPO) can be contacted at [email protected].
CCTV
Purpose of CCTV
Fastned operates CCTV at its fast charging stations and (if applicable) shops for the purpose of monitoring our property, supporting the security of the station and deterring or recording nuisance, vandalism, and other criminal offences.
CCTV footage is not monitored in real time and is only reviewed when necessary (for example, following an incident, complaint or a request from law enforcement).
We do not use CCTV footage for automated decision‑making or profiling (such as facial recognition).
Legal basis for processing
Fastned processes personal data captured by CCTV under the following legal bases:
-
legitimate interest (Article UK 6(1)(f) UK GDPR): monitoring our property, supporting the security of the station and deterring or recording nuisance, vandalism, and other criminal offences; and
-
legal obligation (Art. 6(1)(c) UK GDPR) (where applicable): compliance with law enforcement or regulatory requirements.
What data we collect
CCTV captures only the area of the station and (if applicable) the shop. The cameras are positioned and configured to mask or exclude areas outside of Fastned premises.
The CCTV may capture:
-
Images of individuals
-
License plate numbers
Audio is not recorded.
How long we keep the data
CCTV footage is retained for 30 days (except in Germany and Switzerland where the data is kept for 7 days), unless:
-
an incident is identified; and/or
-
footage is required for an investigation or legal proceedings.
In such cases, relevant footage may be retained until the matter is resolved.
Who we share data with
Access to CCTV footage is restricted to authorised personnel only.
Footage may be shared with:
-
data processors acting on our behalf (e.g. hosting providers); and
-
third parties, but only when legally permitted and necessary (e.g. law enforcement agencies, insurers, legal or regulatory authorities)
The CCTV footage is only accessed and (if applicable) stored within the EEA and/or the United Kingdom, no international transfers take place.
Your rights
You have certain rights regarding CCTV in which you may appear, including:
-
Access: You may request access to footage in which you are identifiable. Requests will be assessed carefully and may be limited to protect the privacy of others, safety, security, or legal obligations.

Automatic Number Plate Recognition at certain UK locations
Purpose of ANPR
Next to CCTV, Fastned operates ANPR at certain locations in the United Kingdom (where indicated with signage) to identify vehicles that have charged without payment and to take steps to collect the related debt.
Legal basis for processing
Fastned processes personal data captured by ANPR under the following legal bases:
-
Legitimate interest (Article 6(1)(f) UK GDPR): identifying vehicles that have charged without payment and to take steps to collect the related debt, provided that these interests are not overridden by your rights and freedoms;
-
Legal obligation (Article 6(1)(c) UK GDPR) (where applicable): compliance with law enforcement or regulatory requirements.
What data we collect
The ANPR may capture:
-
Vehicle Registration Number (license plate);
-
Image or video of the vehicle; and
-
Date and time stamp, location data.
If a case of non‑payment is identified, this data may be linked to other personal data that we hold or obtain, for example:
-
Account details (such as name, contact details and payment status);
-
Payment information and transaction history; and
-
Information obtained from third parties involved in debt collection (for example, collection agencies, legal representatives, or vehicle registration authorities, where legally permitted).
How long do we keep the data
ANPR data is retained for no longer than necessary for the purposes described in this notice and in accordance with applicable UK law.
As a rule, ANPR data that is not linked to any incident or non‑payment case is retained for up to 62 days and then automatically deleted or anonymised. This period reflects our payment cycle, which can be up to 60 days, and allows us to identify vehicles that have charged without payment and to collect the related debt.
If ANPR data relates to an identified incident, case of non‑payment, insurance claim, or legal matter, we may retain the relevant data for as long as necessary to:
-
investigate and resolve the incident or non‑payment;
-
collect outstanding amounts; or
-
establish, exercise, or defend legal claims, or cooperate with law enforcement or regulatory authorities.
Once the data is no longer needed for these purposes, it is deleted or anonymised.
Who we share the data with
Access to ANPR data is restricted to authorised personnel and to service providers acting on our behalf.
ANPR data may be shared with:
-
Data processors acting on our behalf (such as hosting providers, and where applicable, debt collection service providers);
-
Third parties, but only when legally permitted and necessary (such as law enforcement agencies).
Your rights
You have the same data protection rights in relation to ANPR data as you do for CCTV footage (see above), in accordance with applicable data protection laws.
To exercise your rights, please contact [email protected]. Requests will be handled in accordance with applicable law.
