Burgers, Shakes, and Superfast Charging: Fastned arrives at OK Diner, Newark

FastNed_OK Diner_061026 hub opening 2Electric Vehicle (EV) drivers on the A1 can now power up with a side of 1950s nostalgia, as Fastned expands its UK network, and officially opens a new 12-bay ultra-rapid EV charging hub next to the OK Diner restaurant on the A1 Northbound, Newark, NG23 6JF.

Powered entirely by 100% renewable energy, charge point operator, Fastned, and OK Diner joined forces to pull out all the stops for visiting drivers, as they launched the new ultra rapid charging hub in true American 1950s fashion.

Guests could soak up the retro atmosphere with a signature Fastned milkshake from OK Diner while watching The Daisies, a live band of three singers, perform. The band’s speakers were powered by a Farizon EV van, demonstrating that the energy for the entertainment could come from an electric vehicle too. Also on show was a classic red Porsche 911 converted to an EV and provided by Retro Electric.

“The A1 is a vital corridor connecting the South to the North for families, road trippers, and fleets, making top-tier ultra-rapid charging along this route a major priority for us. And, to celebrate our official opening, we gave our first 50 charging customers on the day a £10 credit each, in fact if you visit the hub soon there might be a few remaining vouchers up for grabs.

“So, whether you’re stopping for a quick 10-minute charge or settling in for a burger and shake, we’re thrilled to be able to make that possible by expanding our green network on one of the country’s busiest roads.”

Owner of OK Diners, Dafydd Poole, said: “The classic roadside diner is always at the heart of any great road trip, and welcoming Fastned to OK Diner Newark brings that tradition into the electric age. We’re excited to offer drivers travelling North on the A1 the perfect place to recharge both their vehicles and themselves for many years to come.”
