Fastned wins tender for France’s first all-electric service area

  • Fastned secures location in St Yvi, Brittany, for France’s first service area dedicated exclusively to electric charging: a major step forward for sustainable mobility.
  • Site will offer 6 ultra-fast 400kW chargers (including one adapted for electric trucks) alongside a shop, restrooms, and a landscaped garden.
  • France becomes second country to adopt Fastned’s vision of ‘the service area of the future’ with zero-emissions and designed for people, not for cars.

Fastned, a leading European charging company, has been selected by the Direction interdépartementale des routes Ouest (DIR Ouest) to design and operate the first exclusively electric service area on national roads in France, following a successful tender process.

Scheduled to open in 2026, this pioneering project in St Yvi, Brittany, marks a key step in the transition towards zero-emission mobility on the French motorway network and makes France the second country to adopt Fastned’s vision of all-electric service areas.

Fastned’s charging station will be located along Route National 165, a road used by over 28,000 vehicles each day and forming part of the continental E60 network. The rest area will offer 6 charging points for electric vehicles, including 1 charging point adapted for heavy goods vehicles, each with a power of 400 kW.

Bringing the service area of the future to France

France will become the second country to adopt Fastned’s vision of all-electric service areas, with amenities and facilities designed for the needs of every driver, and all powered by sustainable clean energy.

Alongside EV charging under Fastned’s iconic Solar Canopy, Fastned St Yvi will feature a shop, restrooms, and a landscaped garden to offer travelers a pleasant break during their journey. Drivers will be able to grab a snack, enjoy fresh coffee, and take a moment to relax while they charge their EV on 100% renewable electricity.

Fastned’s unique vision of ‘the service area of the future’ was first showcased in September 2025 with the opening of the company’s flagship locations in Gentbrugge, Belgium.

Fastned currently operates over 380 charging stations across Europe, with over 50 throughout France. With this St Yvi tender success, Fastned confirms its role as a European leader in 100% electric service areas, and paves the way for future developments in France and across the continent.

“

I am extremely proud that Fastned has been chosen to build France's first all-electric service area at St Yvi. France now becomes the second country to embark on the journey of zero-emissions service areas - a logical step in light of the phase out of the internal combustion engine and fossil fuels, and therefore petrol stations. Fastned has been powering electric drivers across France since 2021, accelerating the pace of transition with over 50 locations already open to French drivers. This tender win shows our ambition to bring the service area of the future to France, and further all over Europe, and to give every driver the best charging experience possible with 100% renewable energy.
